The cycle tour from Munich to Salzburg is a holiday for the eyes, body and soul. Cycling under a white and blue sky, big city flair, idyllic high alpine landscapes, large and small deep blue lakes, customs, cosmopolitanism, well-known cities and rustic villages form the framework of this holiday. Enjoy the Bavarian beer and the hearty dishes of the region as well as the fine Austrian pastries. For this cycle tour you should bring some basic level of fitness.
Day 1 Arrival in Munich
Come early enough and discover the highlights of the Bavarian capital, e.g. one of the Pinakotheken, the Hofbräuhaus or the panoramic view from the Alter Peter church tower.
Day 2 Munich - Bad Tölz, approx. 60 km/37 mi
Take a short break on a white pebble bank of the Isar and then cycle through gentle riparian forests to Bad Tölz. Once situated at the intersection of two trade routes, the richly decorated town houses are a reminder of the town's economic heyday.
Day 3 Bad Tölz - Schliersee, approx. 35 km / 22 mi
Today's stage begins with a ride through the gently undulating Tegernsee landscape. From Gmund, the Bodensee-Königsee cycle path takes you to Schliersee.
Day 4 Schliersee - Bad Feilnbach, approx. 35 km / 22 mi
After leaving the lakeshore, you cycle to Bad Feilnbach, also known as ‘Bavarian Merano’. A mild climate and over 30,000 fruit trees give the moor spa its nickname.
Day 5 Bad Feilnbach - Chiemsee, approx. 35 - 50 km / 22 - 31 mi
Via Neubauern, about which Hugo von Hofmannsthal enthused that it was a ‘beautiful spot of earth’, we head to the southern shore of the Bavarian Sea. How about a boat trip to the islands of Herrenchiemsee and Frauenchiemsee?
Day 6 Chiemsee - Inzell, approx. 30 - 45 km / 19 - 28 mi
The mountains get higher, the cycle path remains almost flat. Today's stage destination Innzell is characterised by the Lüftlmalerei paintings on the flower-decorated town houses.
Day 7 Inzell - Salzburg, aaprox. 50 km / 31 mi
The route runs narrowly between the mountains along the Saalach to Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart. The festival city and former residence of the prince-bishopric will inspire you.
