This round trip will lead you through the famous medieval towns of Bamberg, Nuremberg and Rothenburg, as well as “Beer Franconia” - where you’ll find more breweries than anywhere else in the world. Along the route which mostly leads along rivers and canals, you’ll see countless castles, chateaus and beer gardens. However, you should have a certain level of baseline fitness for this Beer tour in Bavaria, or consider using an e-bike.
Day 1 Arrival in Rothenburg o.T.
The medieval town is famous around the world, in the evening, the night watchman will give you a tour through its alleys.
Day 2 Rothenburg - Wolframs-Eschenbach, 65 km / 40 mi
Along the slightly hilly Burgenstraße, you’ll ride up to picturesque views of the mighty Zollernburg castle in Colmberg and the splendid residential city of Ansbach, after which you’ll reach Wolframs-Eschenbach, a medieval village under the banner of the Parzival poet.
Day 3 Wolframs-Eschenbach - Nuremberg, 65 km / 40 mi
Today’s ride along the Burgenstraßen cycle path is refreshingly easy-going. In Nuremberg, you can look forward to evening strolls through the historic centre and Franconian specialties
Day 4 Nuremberg - Castle Rabenstein, 95/50 km / 59/31 mi
For those who love pushing themselves, we’d highly recommend cycling to Forchtheim. Alternatively, go for a leisurely stroll through Nuremberg and take the train. Afterwards, the route will take you through a diverse landscape towards today’s final destination: the impressive Rabenstein castle.
Day 5 Castle Rabenstein - Bamberg, 55 km / 34 mi
Via Aufseß - the town with the highest number of breweries per capita in the world - you’ll cycle to Heiligenstadt and Litzendorf and onwards to Bamberg.
Day 6 Bamberg
The UNESCO world heritage city of Bamberg lures you in with its many sights. Why not stroll through the beautiful historic centre, explore the town hall and the dome or go on one of the countless guided brewery tours.
Day 7 Bamberg - Neustadt a.d. Aisch, 65/55 km / 40/34 mi
The river Aisch will lead you along to Neustadt, which is shaped by its widely preserved fortifications. This route can be shortened by taking the train.
Day 8 Neustadt - Rothenburg o.d. Tauber, 55 km / 34 mi
Bad Windsheim is not only home to an interesting open-air museum, but also an exquisite museum micro-brew. For your last evening, the towns’ medieval alleys offer a great setting.
